Horatio Spafford was a well known and successful businessman in the 1800's. However, in 1871, he lost much of his wealth in a fire, and then lost his 4 daughters in a shipwreck. Even after all of this, he wrote the lyrics to "It is Well With My Soul."

God gave him peace, even though many terrible things had happened to him. If you have accepted Christ as your personal Savior, you can know that He will always be with you, no matter what you go through. He is faithful in good times and bad times!

One of my favorite hymns, made even more powerful knowing the history of it.

I am convicted every time I sing it. After going through so much tragedy and loss would I have had the faith to write “It is well with my soul”?

I can only pray that God will give me that much strength and faith in Him!
